With recent rumours swirling regarding Matthew Tkachuk’s status in Calgary, Senators fans couldn’t help themselves by creating plenty of trade possibilities

With these recent rumours progressing all over social media, especially in the Twitterverse, Senators fans have been all consumed by the thought of pairing  Brady and Matthew Tkachuk together on the same team, and why wouldn’t they be?

After the hiring of Darryl Sutter nearly halfway through the season, Matthew Tkachuk saw his production and ice-time dip significantly where he even dipped into the 13-minute mark in some games, it makes sense why Brady Tkachuk’s older brother supposedly wants out.

With Calgary struggling this past season and a 26-27-3 record it’s likely that the Flames are going to make some changes this offseason and if Pierre Dorion comes calling, Flames General Manager Brad Treliving will certainly pick up the phone. Let’s take a look at a possible trade that could make sense for both sides:

What are the Senators giving up?

Moving the main piece of the Mark Stone trade in Erik Brannstrom can’t be easy for Pierre Dorion as acquiring the young Swedish defenceman was his “happiest day as General Manager”, but in order to get a star player you have to send a lot of value the other way, hence why Brannstrom is included as the main piece. The Senators should have little trouble moving on from the undersized Swedish defenceman because of the soon arrival of Jake Sanderson and the rise of Victor Mete, add Thomas Chabot into the mix and the Senators could have a formidable left-side for years to come.

Pierre Dorion and staff would also be parting with two of their highly-regarded prospects from the 2020 NHL Draft, with Ridly Greig (28th overall) and Tyler Kleven (44th overall), but with the team’s depth at both forward and defence losing these players shouldn’t matter greatly in the grand scheme of things. Adding a top-10 pick to the equation should grab the Flames attention and with their likely impending rebuild, they’d be wise to consider this course of action.

Once everything falls into place, this Senators team could look really scary:

2022-23 Roster Prediction

Brady Tkachuk-Josh Norris-Drake Batherson

Tim Stützle-Shane Pinto-Matthew Tkachuk

Alex Formenton-Nick Paul-Connor Brown

Angus Crookshank-Colin White-Evgenii Dadonov

Thomas Chabot-Jacob Bernard-Docker

Jake Sanderson-Lassi Thomson

Victor Mete-Artem Zub

This would be a dream lineup to start the 2022-23 season and one that offers a bunch of speed, skill, grit to hopefully make plenty of runs in the playoffs.
