The longest-tenured goaltender in the Senators organization has moved on
With all signs pointing to Marcus Hogberg leaving the team, hearing today that he signed a four-year deal with his former team Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League.
After finally breaking out as an NHL goaltender during the 2019-20 season, Hogberg entered this past season looking to establish himself as the backup to the newly acquired Matt Murray, but his terrible start to the season was too much to recover from. At the season’s end, the veteran goaltender carried a stat line of 0.876 SV% with a 3.74 goals-against-average with a 4-7-0 record.
Following Pierre Dorion’s season-ending press conference it was clear that the writing was on the wall, and what transpired today was certainly better for both sides.
Hogberg was selected in the 3rd round in the 2013 NHL Draft (78th overall) and spent four years between Belleville and Ottawa where he had some impressive performances at each level. The 6’5″ netminder spent six seasons with Linköping HC and enjoyed plenty of success at that level, and it’s likely Hogberg takes over as one of the premier goaltenders in Sweden.
