Let’s look back to the memorable events of Senators history occurred in the month of March
March 1 1996 – Forward Dave Mcllwain traded to Pittsburgh. The Seaforth, Ontario native scored 17 goals with the Senators in 1993-94 season, but failed to repeat in his latter two seasons with the club.
March 1 2011 – Defenseman Filip Kuba played his 700th career game in the NHL. The native of Czechoslovakia played 261 games in his four-year career with the Senators (2008-2012).
March 4 2010 – Franchise cornerstone Daniel Alfredsson registered his 600th career assist in the NHL during the game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
March 7 2009 – Senators Captain Daniel Alfredsson scored his 350th career goal in the NHL during Ottawa’s 6-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Place. The Swedish native played 17 seasons with the franchise. Alfredsson would depart in 2013 off-season as the Senators all-time franchise record holder in games played, goals, assists, and points.
March 11 2009 – Jason Spezza registered his 400th career NHL point in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Scotiabank Place, passing Radek Bonk for fourth in the franchise all-time points list. Spezza would register 251 goals and 681 points in 11 seasons with the franchise. The Toronto native played in the famous CASH line with Daniel Alfredsson and Dany Heatley.
March 11 2013 – At the Trade Deadline, Ottawa acquired Forward Bryan Smolinski from the LA Kings for prospect Defenseman Tim Gleason. Smolinski played three seasons with Ottawa, scoring 39 goals and 102 points in 171 points with the club.
March 14 2000 – One of the most significant trades in the history of the franchise occurred on this day when Goaltender Ron Tugnutt was traded to Pittsburgh for two-time Stanley Cup champion Tom Barrasso. Tugnutt left the Senators with the franchise record 72 wins, leading the team to their first postseason in 1997. Tugnutt played with Ottawa from Future Hall of Famer Barrasso posted a 3-4 record in the regular season with the Sens, and was the starting netminder for the team’s playoff series against Toronto.
March 27 2010 – Forward Chris Kelly played his 400th career NHL game. Kelly would play 545 games in his 8-year career in Ottawa.
