Looking back at the best Ottawa Senators moments all-time from the end of March

February 22, 2012 – Defenseman Erik Karlsson set a new franchise record for assists in a season during a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Karlsson would end up with 59 assists and 79 points in the 2011-12 campaign, winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year.

February 24, 1993 – Ottawa snaps their four-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Dave McIiawain and Sylvain Turgeon scored two each for the Senators. The Senators would eventually end their second season in the league with a 14-61-9 record.

February 25, 2003 – Ottawa Senators trade their 2002 first-round draft pick Jakub Klepis for Vaclav Varada. The Czech forward played two-plus seasons with the franchise, primarily used in the third or fourth line. Varada left the NHL for Europe in 2006 before ending his pro career following the 2013-14 season.

February 25, 1993 – Ottawa Senators trade Defenceman Brad Miller to the Toronto Maple Leafs for 9th round selection in the 1993 NHL Draft. The Senators would then select Pavol Demitra. Demitra would play 59 games in three seasons with the franchise, scoring 12 goals and 14 assists. Demitra died in the 2011 Lokomotiv plane crash.

February 25, 2008 – Defenseman Luke Richardson played his 1400th career NHL game against his former squad – Toronto Maple Leafs. Richardson played one more year with Ottawa before retiring early in the 2008-09 season.

February 27, 2007 – Ottawa acquires Forward Oleg Saprykin from Phoenix in exchange for 2008 second-round draft pick and Defenseman Andy Hedlund. Saprykin was praised for his energetic play during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, playing in all the team’s 15 playoff games. The Russian native would leave the NHL in the following season to play in his native country, where he retired in 2016.

February 27, 2020 –

Forward Bobby Ryan returned to the NHL with a hat trick performance against the Vancouver Canucks. Ryan’s first game in the league since leaving the team in November 2019 after enrolling in the player assistance program for his substance abuse.
