The Senators enjoyed a tremendous finish to the month of March and are trending upwards

This past week, the Ottawa Senators had a winning week for the first time since opening weekend against the Maple Leafs. Ottawa took six out of possible eight points, going 3-1-0.

This recent outburst of solid play by the Senators rides on the shoulders of their young players. Top performances by Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot, Drake Batherson, Tim Stützle and Josh Norris have been providing a king’s ransom of offence for the squad.

Here is the review of what the Sens did in the last week of February.

Ottawa 3, Montreal 2 (OT) – Sunday, February 21

On Sunday, Senators netminder Matt Murray stopped 30 shots, while Brady Tkachuk scored the game-winner in overtime to lift Ottawa past Montreal 3-2 at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Ottawa 5, Montreal 4 (SO) – Tuesday, February 23

The Senators overcame blowing two two-goal leads and a controversial no-goal late in regulation to beat Montreal for the second straight game 5-4 in a shootout Tuesday. Josh Norris provided the winning goal for the Sens.

Ottawa 6, Calgary 1 – Thursday, February 25

The Senators score six goals to extinguish the Flames 6-1 at the Canadian Tire Centre. Forward Colin White (two goals) and Defenseman Thomas Chabot (two assists) each had two points to lead the Sens in scoring. Matt Murray stopped 29 out of 30 shots for Ottawa.

Calgary 6, Ottawa 3 – Saturday, February 27

Ottawa had their three-game winning streak come to an end by dropping 6-3 to the Flames. Joey Daccord relieved Matt Murray in the third period after Murray conceded six goals on 33 shots through two periods.

The Senators return to the ice Monday to conclude their homestand against the Calgary Flames. The team then heads on the road for six straight games in eleven days, starting in Montreal on Tuesday, Calgary on Thursday, and Sunday of this week.
