A clear cut tandem should provide minimal parity for Ottawa this season

The Ottawa Senators head into the 2020-21 season with a completely different duo than they debuted in last year’s action. Letting Craig Anderson walk in free agency and trading Anders Nilsson to Tampa Bay, the franchise has a new identity between the pipes.

The Senators announced their official training camp roster and it includes 6 goaltenders, names include Francois Brassard, Joey Daccord, Filip Gustavsson, Marcus Hogberg, Kevin Mandolese and Matt Murray.
First off, having a two-time Stanley Cup Champion goaltender instantly raises the level of play at the starting position despite Murray’s struggles last season. Plus the rising Marcus Hogberg, it appears the Senators crease is trending in the right direction.

Prospects such as Joey Daccord, Filip Gustavsson and Kevin Mandolese are likely to find themselves in the AHL or the taxi squad depending on how they perform in training camp. With Covid-19 and the shortened schedule providing heavier workloads for the players, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Daccord or even Gustavsson suit up in a few games in the big leagues. While Brassard is strictly an ECHL body that could fill in for the occasional game in Belleville.
