Christian Jaros finally settled with the Ottawa Senators

Christian Jaros has signed a one-year, two-way deal worth $750,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 in the AHL. Jaros filed for arbitration likely demanding more money at the AHL level and got that with a solid salary.

Jaros 24, spent 13 games in the NHL last season, recording 3 assists in those games while spending the majority of his time in the AHL, recording 15 points in 34 games and a solid plus 20 rating.

At this point in his career, Jaros is what he is. A capable 7th defenceman in the NHL but one that will likely spend most of his time in the AHL. With Ottawa bringing in Josh Brown, Erik Gudbranson and Artem Zub all on the right side of the blue line, leaving Jaros buried on the depth chart. Tack on Jacob Bernard-Docker and Lassi Thomson entering the organization in the 2021-22 season. A battle with Erik Gudbranson and Artem Zub for that final spot on the Senators’ defence is likely Jaros’ best shot, but both are on one-way contracts making them much more enviable options than Jaros.

While the NHL may not be realistic next season, Belleville is expected to be strong again and Jaros is one of the top defencemen on the team, his presence would be important on the back end. With the AHL targeting a start on February 5th, expect Jaros to likely appear on the opening day roster.

With multiple expected graduates from Belleville, continuity will be important and Troy Mann will hope to have the dependable defenceman on his roster.
