Paul finally became a full-time NHLer last season

Paul 25, an RFA this offseason signed a two-year contract carrying a $1.35 AAV, a good signing for the Senators as the big winger provided valuable bottom-six minutes last season.

Paul enjoyed his most productive season in the NHL: playing 56 games while potting 9 goals and 20 points. Paul averaged 14:27 TOI/game while finishing third on the team in hits with 122 and was also second on the Senators with 8 more takeaways than giveaways.

It’s almost certain that Paul will play a bottom-six role next season, at 6’4″ and 230 pounds he’s an imposing presence on the ice and has good skill to complement the grit he brings to the game. For a team at this point in their rebuild, it’s much better to play younger players with some potential than veteran players who are already established, a welcomed signing for all Senators fans.

I was lucky enough to be in attendance during Paul’s best game as a Senator when he scored 2 goals against the San Jose Sharks in late October.

Let’s hope Paul can continue to carve out a role with the franchise for the coming years.
