Some Senators prospects have started play in their respective leagues

While some leagues are still on hold due to the ongoing pandemic, other leagues have begun their season and multiple Senators prospects have started their 2020-21 campaign.

Filip Chlapik, HC Sparta Praha (Czech)

Stats: GP: 3 G: 1 A: 0 P: 1 +/-: 1

Chlapik returned back to his home country to play in their top tier men’s league and is currently playing for free as he awaits an agreement with the Senators after they qualified the RFA.

The loan is on a month-by-month basis all dependant on when the NHL aims to proceed with their new season. Chlapik has one goal in three games so far and is looking to help the team he grew up beside.

Philippe Daoust, Moncton (QMJHL)

Stats: GP: 3 G: 0 A: 0 P: 0 +/-: -2

The Senators 2020 6th-round pick has struggled to start the new QMJHL season, going pointless through his first 3 games. Still holding a big role with the team, once Daoust finds his stride he should start producing at a higher level.

Eric Engstrand, Malmö (SHL)

Stats: GP: 4 G: 0 A: 0 +/-: 1

Another selection from the 2020 draft, Engstrand a 5th-round pick has yet to produce a point early in the season for Malmö.

Maxence Guenette, Val D’or (QMJHL)

Stats: GP: 4 G: 0 A: 3 +/-: -2

One of the better performers so far out of the Senators crop, Guenette is looking great so far with Val-D’or. Guenette got the first star in the first game of the season and is far and away the best defenceman on Val D’or.

Filip Gustavsson, Södertälje (HockeyAllsvenskan)

Stats: GP: 2 SV%: 0.944 GAA: 1.50

Gustavsson picked up a shutout in his second game of the season for Södertälje and will look to gain some confidence for another season in Belleville once the AHL resumes.

Roby Järventie, Ilves (Liiga)

Stats: GP: 4 G: 1 A: 3 P: 4 +/-: 2

One of the better performers so far among Senators prospects has been Järventie, at a point/game pace through 4 games and he actually wore the “gold helmet” for Ilves which signifies their leading scorer.

The 2020 2nd-round pick is showing why the Senators took him that early.

Viktor Lodin, Timrå IK (HockeyAllsvenskan)

Stats: GP: 2 G: 1 A: 0 P: 1 +/-: 0

Lodin scored his first of the season in Timrå’s second game of the season. A strong start for a player who had a rough offseason.

Leevi Merilainen, Kärpät U20 (U20 SM-sarja)

Stats: GP: 6 SV%: 0.917 GAA: 2.17

A recent 2020 3rd-round pick, Meriläinen has enjoyed a great start to the season in Finland’s U20 league. Meriläinen has been splitting starts with Kärpät’s other goaltender, but recent trends suggest he may assume a full starter position in the near future.

Lassi Thomson, Ilves (Liiga)

Stats: GP: 4 G: 0 A: 0 P: 0 +/-: 1

Starting on the third-pairing with Ilves, Thomson has been playing in the low-teens in ice-time per game. This is a reason for his non-existent production so far. Look for Thomson to fight for more minutes and more production will ultimately follow.
