A much-anticipated interview took place today between top prospect Quinton Byfield and TSN 1200’s Shawn Simpson and John Rodenburg

An interview met with high demand, TSN 12OO brought on potential future Senator Quinton Byfield who is a lock to go inside the top 3 at the upcoming NHL Draft.

Recently, Byfield has taken up the opportunity of working out with renowned strength and conditioning coach and former NHLer Gary Roberts to help train for the rigours of the NHL. Preparing for the draft and potentially a season in the NHL next year, Byfield has been pushing himself:

"“Still just working out, skating as much as I can, I’m going there 5 times a week (working out) and skating 3-4 times a week with Gary Roberts”"

Byfield has been on a strict workout regimen influenced by Gary Roberts and has been working out with some intriguing NHL players.

“I think I can definitely make the step next year”

The Sudbury Wolves phenom cited Connor McDavid, Darnell Nurse and Chris Tierney as players he works out with regularly, with the Tierney name drop being quite interesting. When posed a question about how Tierney has spoken of Ottawa, Byfield answered as best he could:

"“We haven’t talked too much about that but when we do he said it’s a really good place, it’s a good place to be, I think he really likes it there and great teammates, it’s a young team, they’re on the up and coming for sure. He says it’s somewhere you would want to be in the future”"

While I’m sure it’s not usual conversation that Byfield and Tierney discuss between each other, it’s nice to see that they’ve acknowledged the possibility and Tierney had great things to say about Ottawa. It’s comforting to know that if Byfield ends up becoming a Senator that he will have some familiarity in the locker room.

Followed by more discussion, Simpson asked Byfield about the teams he had been meeting with and how many meetings he has had with the Senators staff:

"“Beginning of quarantine I think it was 10 teams reach out to me and had zoom calls with a couple of them. It started off with a lot but it’s kind of slowed down, recently I had two calls with each of those teams (LA and Ottawa), I think they went really well”"

While not too much was given away during the interview, it allowed Senators fans a little glimpse into the potential future of the Ottawa Senators. A former 1st overall pick in the OHL Draft, Byfield has been a star wherever he’s went and he should be able to continue that with Ottawa with what he thinks can be as early as next season.
