As we get closer to the cream of the Senators prospect crop, we are now at the part of the list where we have the good but not amazing prospects.
Number 16: Maxime Lajoie
Max Lajoie isn’t really a prospect so much anymore as he played 56 games last year, but it’s not to far off to call him a prospect.
The offensive minded defenceman from Quebec City put up seven goals and 15 points as a rookie last year, but didn’t initially make the lineup this time round.
He started the season in the AHL, but is now in a Senators uniform because of the multitude of injuries.
I really liked his poise and smarts on the ice in the small sample size that I saw.
He’s a B prospect at best though, and doesn’t have very high NHL potential for the Senators.
Estimated NHL arrival: This year.
Number 15: Mads Sogaard
Maybe the best Danish prospect since Frederik Andersen, Sogaard was a second round pick of the Senators in this past draft, and is playing well in the WHL.
At 6’7″ 200 lbs he has great size and uses that to his advantage in sticky situations, often to dive back into the play.
He has legit starter potential, but it will be a while until we see him in Senators colours.
Sens management obviously has high hopes for the 18-year old as they traded up to select him in the draft.
Estimated NHL arrival: 2024-25 season.
Number 14: Filip Chlapik
Itching to graduate from prospect statues, Chlapik has a good mixture of skill and size enabling him to be a great power forward on the B-Sens for the past few seasons.
After three tries at the NHL levels in consecutive seasons, management may have Chlapik on a short leash.
At the coming deadline we could see him traded as part of a big package to a contender.
Estimated NHL arrival: This year.
