Anthony Duclair’s start to the season has been nothing less than heroic, he’s already on track for numerous career highs.

Duclair was originally brought over to Ottawa in the trade for Ryan Dzingel, at the deadline. Even at the time it looked like the trade was a steal:

To Ottawa: Anthony Duclair, a 2020 second round pick, and a 2021 second round pick.

To Columbus: Ryan Dzingel, and a 2019 seventh round pick (Tyler Angle).

Without the picks its a fair trade for both sides, but factoring in the picks its looking to be an absolute steal for the Senators.

Also those picks are likely going to be very high second round picks in the 33-38 range. So its almost as if they gave us two late first rounders.

So Dzingel’s season so far is average at best with five goals and twelve assists for 17 points in 30 games.

But Anthony Duclair is quite another story, with 15 goals and seven assists for 22 points in 31 games. He’s currently second on the Sens in goals, only one behind J.G. Pageau, who has 16.

His career high in goals from his rookie season in 2015-16 is 20, which he’s going to blow right by, maybe even before the halfway mark.

Throughout his career all of his coaches have said, they could see his offensive skill and his shot especially, but his defensive game just wasn’t there. But that has changed in his short time in Ottawa, hes one of the most defensively aware players on the team, to go with being the fastest player on the team.

He’s on track for an astonishing 40 goals and 58 points total. That’s a long way from being a player traded five times in as many years.

He’s one of the main reasons of hope and optimism in Ottawa these days, and hopefully will get re-signed long term as early as possible.
