Ottawa Senators to retire Chris Phillips’ No. 4 jersey in February
The Ottawa Senators have announced that the club will honour a true club legend in February when Chris Phillips’ No. 4 jersey is raised to the rafters at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Ottawa Senators have officially announced that the organisation will pay tribute to one of their greatest servants when they face the Buffalo Sabres on February 18th 2020, seeing no other player don Chris Phillips‘ No. 4 jersey in the Canadian capital ever again.
Phillips, a left-handed defenceman during his playing days, is synonymous with the Senators with the Calgary, Alberta native holding the record for most appearances with the organisation.
His 1179 regular-season games in a Sens jersey edges out Daniel Alfredsson by just one game, ensuring that Phillips holds on to the record for the foreseeable future, with no current play anywhere near his record.

With Alfredsson already having his No. 11 jersey hanging above the ice at the Canadian Tire Centre, it is only fitting that Phillips is the next man up.
Phillips holds the unique honour of having played for just one team in the NHL, from his first game in 1997 right up to his last in 2015.
While generally being a more defensive-minded defenceman, Phillips still managed to score 71 goals an had 288 total points during his time in the NHL, adding a further 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 103 playoff games.
While Phillips was unable to see the team lift the Stanley Cup, he played an integral part of the organisation’s history with many years of success – something that the fanbase will be hoping can be brought back in the near future.
There have not been many things Eugene Melnyk has done that Ottawa Senators fans agree with, but seeing Alfredsson and now Phillips honoured with their jerseys being retired is something that the majority will have a hard time disagreeing with.
