Brace yourselves, March holds 14 games for the Ottawa Senators and they are going to be a slog to get through.

18 games separate the Ottawa Senators and a much-needed summer vacation.

It has been a long year for the Sens. They currently sit in dead last of the NHL with a 22-37-5 record and are on a six-game losing streak.

But up until now, the games had been semi-watchable thanks to the performances of Mark Stone and Matt Duchene, who were both on a point-per-game pace. That semi-watchable nature came to an end when both players were traded (Stone to Vegas, Duchene to Columbus). Now, the team is a shell of what it was with Stone and Duchene leading the way, and the Senators were already bad with them in the lineup. Throw in the firing of Guy Boucher, and the team is a complete mess.

And now that awful defense and hole-filled offense face a terrifying enemy: The month of March.

March Madness

14 games await the Ottawa Senators in March: at Tampa Bay, at Florida, at New York (Islanders), vs New York (Islanders), at Boston, at Philadelphia, vs St. Louis, vs Toronto, at Vancouver, at Calgary, at Edmonton, vs Buffalo, vs Florida and vs Toronto.

For those not keeping up with the standings, eight of those games are against teams currently in a playoff spot and only two of those games are against teams with a losing record (Edmonton and Vancouver).

Theoretically, with how the Senators have been playing this year, they could lose all 14 of those games. That’s very unlikely, the Sens will probably rattle off a win against Florida or upset a playoff team like Toronto (Who are dealing with injuries to their defense). But that doesn’t make the next 30 days any less daunting.

Get Ready Sens Fans

Word of encouragement aren’t really passed around by fans of the Senators nowadays, and I don’t really have many for you. April is almost here, but getting through the 14 game stretch in March is going to be the toughest part of the season for the team and the fans.

Next. Senators Fire Guy Boucher. dark

If there is any solace I can give you, it’s that hockey is just a sport. Yes, it is an escape and it’s great when the Ottawa Senators are a competitive team, but we, the fans, have no control over what happens on the ice. And if you want to watch a good hockey team associated with the Senators over the next month, check out the Belleville Senators, who have a load of young prospects and talent that should get fans excited for the future.
