A key player for the Ottawa Senators has reached an impressive milestone.

In the first period of their Monday night match-up with the Chicago Blackhawks, Anders Nilsson was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 12 shots in just 13:22 TOI. This prompted Guy Boucher to pull Nilsson and allow Craig Anderson to enter the game for the Ottawa Senators in relief, allowing the 37-year old goalie reaching a milestone against the team he debuted with all the way back in 2002.

Last night was the 600th NHL game that Anderson played in, making him the 50th goalie in NHL history to reach that mark.

Even with how inconsistent he has been recently, reaching 600 games is still an accomplishment that should be celebrated by the fans and the Ottawa Senators organization.

16 Long Years

Anderson’s long career has been spent with four teams. He played in 56 games for the Blackhawks, 53 games with the Florida Panthers, and 104 with the Colorado Avalanche before being traded to the Ottawa Senators on February 18th, 2011 in exchange for Brian Elliot. Since that trade, Anderson has appeared in 387 games for the Sens, being named the starting goalie in 378 of them.

Over his career, Anderson has amassed a record of 275-225-66, recording 41 shutouts. His stats have been consistent throughout his entire run, with a 2.81 GAA and .914 SV%. His 275 wins are ranked 9th among active goalies and 43rd all-time, not too shabby for a former third round pick.

With the Senators, Anderson is 188-142-43, the all-time Senators leader in wins and the only goalie to play in over 300 games with the franchise. He won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 2017 and has started 40 playoff games for Ottawa, going 21-18 with a .928 SV% and 2.30 GAA.

dark. Next. Who Could Replace Pierre Dorion?

Thank You Craig

He may not be the top goalie in the NHL, but Craig Anderson has been with the Ottawa Senators for over half of his 16 year career. Reaching 600 games is a truly special accomplishment and we should remember the good times he brought to the team rather than the rough ride he has had over the last two seasons.
