The Ottawa Senators were finally able to return to the win column last night. After six straight losses they were victorious against the Anaheim Ducks.

Losing streaks have become a habit for this Ottawa Senators team this season. However, last night they were able to break the string of losses and pull off an overtime victory.

First Period

The first period of the game saw both teams pepper the opposing goalie with shots, with the Ducks being the slightly more aggressive team. The Sens were able to kill off a singular penalty and despite the high volume of shots the game went to intermission tied at zero.

Second Period

The second period saw a change of pace as both teams tightened up defensively. There were only 10 shots combined between the two teams despite there being two powerplay opportunities. The result was a scoreless game through two periods of play.

Third Period

The third period saw the first offensive action. Bobby Ryan on the powerplay scored his seventh of the season to give the Sens a one goal lead just five minutes into the period. Then the Sens attempted to shutdown the Ducks. They were successful until a botched clearing attempt by Matt Duchene with a minute remaining led to a goal by the Ducks. From there the game went to overtime. However, the Sens lucked out as the Ducks took a penalty late in the third that would carry over into overtime.

Overtime

Starting overtime on the powerplay, the Ottawa Senators didn’t waste much time. Erik Karlsson scored just 30 seconds into the frame to give the Sens their first win in six games.

A Much Needed Victory

It was a much needed win for the Ottawa Senators. After dropping six straight the morale of the team would have been low and a hard fought overtime is just what the team needed.
