The Ottawa Senators lost in embarrassing fashion last night to the Chicago Blackhawks by the score of 8-2.
After a pair of strong performances, the Ottawa Senators had one of their worst performances of the entire season. They lost 8-2 to a Blackhawks team that is on the decline in the Western Conference.
First Period
The first period saw the Ottawa Senators dominated with the Blackhawks taking 17 shots to the Sens’ 8. However, the game would only see one goal, a late tally by the Blackhawks. Ending the period, the Sens were miraculously only down by one goal.
Second Period
The second period was an offensive explosion. By the 10 minute mark the Blackhawks had scored three times to bring their lead to 4-0. The Sens got two goals back, but gave up another two as the period ended. This put the Blackhawks up 6-2 after two periods.
Third Period
With the game already out of reach the Sens put up another weak performance in the third. The Blackhawks scored two more times to win the game 8-2.
Takeaways
This game was a disaster on all fronts. Both of the Sens goalies put up atrocious performances each giving up four goals. The rest of the team wasn’t any better as they gave up a total of 43 shots compared to only 27 of their own.
The Sens have become a team that cannot be trusted to perform over long stretches. They had a chance to turn things around after two strong performances, but have squandered that opportunity with this performance.
