The Ottawa Senators have gotten back in the win column with a victory over the New York Rangers. It was their first win after five straight losses.
The was a great morale boost for the Ottawa Senators, a team that has now won just two of their last 14 games. This should help the mental state of the team going into the Centennial Classic.
First Period
The first period was a strong one for the Ottawa Senators. They went even in shots with 8 a piece, but got the early lead. Just four minutes in, Bobby Ryan scored to give the Sens the lead. In this losing streak one of the big things that has eluded the Sens is an early lead. They have been unable to score that first goal which has led to many losses.
Second Period
The second period saw the Rangers answer back early on, but the Sens were not perturbed. With five minutes remaining in the second, Cody Ceci scored to give the Sens the lead once again. The period ended with the Ottawa Senators leading 2-1.
Third Period
The third period got off to as good a start as is possible. Zack Smith scored just eight seconds into the period to give the Sens a two goal lead. The Rangers would answer back with one gaol five minutes later, but the Sens then shut the door and won 3-2.
Building On This Win
With a victory last night, the Ottawa Senators have now won two of their last 14 games. A terrible record for sure but this team needs to build off something. Going forward they need to build on this and put together a winning streak.
