It seems that the Ottawa Senators just cannot get anything going this season. They continue to follow every good performance with a poor one, this time against the San Jose Sharks.

The loss to San Jose last night was their fourth straight. They have now lost 11 of their last 12. The Ottawa Senators are approaching the point of no return.

First Period

The first period was a terrible one for the Ottawa Senators. They were out shot 16-6 and were outplayed in nearly every facet of the game. The miraculously got out with only one goal against but failed to put anything on the board.

Second Period

The second period was much of the same for the Ottawa Senators, They were out shot and outplayed. They took three penalties to the Sharks one and never gave themselves a chance to get back in the game. The Sharks scored twice in the period, once at the five minute mark and the other with five minutes remaining. The period ended 3-0 for the Sharks.

Third Period

The third period saw the Sharks stretch the lead to four early off a goal by Joe Pavelski. It appeared that the Sens then got one back, but it was called back. While this was a bad call and it was a definitive goal, at the end of the day it wouldn’t have made a difference. The Sharks would then add one more and win 5-0.

The Point Of No Return

It’s at the point in the season when the Ottawa Senators may be beyond the point of ne return. Obviously, it’s still relatively early, but the Sens are drifting awfully far away for a playoff spot. With the way they’re playing right now, they have no business being anywhere near that position and it’s showing.
