The Ottawa Senators are back in the win column after a close affair with the New York Islanders. They won by the score of 6-5.
This was an Ottawa Senators team that had struggled to score during a seven game losing streak. They seemed to fix that problem by scoring six goals against the New York Islanders last night.
First Period
The first period was an up and down ride for the Ottawa Senators. They got two quick goals from Ryan Dzingel and Zack Smith to get a 2-0 lead. However, the Islanders answered back twice within five minutes to tie the game. Then with one minute remaining, Bobby Ryan got his first of the season to give the Sens a 3-2 lead as period one came to a close.
Second Period
The second period was a weaker one for the Ottawa Senators as they gave up two goals in the first five minutes. This gave the Islanders a 4-3 lead. However, Thomas Chabot answered back with his first career NHL goal to tie the game. Unfortunately, it only took 16 seconds for the Islanders to reclaim the lead. That would be the end for Anderson as he was pulled after the fifth goal. Then on the powerplay Hoffman took a feed from Chabot to tie the game. The game would stay tied at five as the period closed.
Third Period
The third period saw Ryan Dzingel score on the powerplay off another feed from Chabot, giving the Sens a 6-5 lead. The Sens then shutdown the Islanders to hold on for their first win in seven games.
Standouts
The standouts tonight for the Ottawa Senators were Ryan Dzingel and Thomas Chabot. Dzingel scored the opening goal and the game winner. Chabot had three points including his first NHL goal. His other two points were primary assists on the powerplay.
A Long Road Ahead
With the Ottawa Senators back in the win column they now have to work on stringing a few together. One win isn’t enough to get them back in contention. They have a way to go to recover from their terrible November.
