Coming into the season the Ottawa Senators were expected have their top six full intact. Unfortunately, that was quickly made impossible as Clarke MacArthur failed his medical exam. Now it has come out that he will very likely never play in the NHL again.
When MacArthur wasn’t cleared to play at the start of the season there was always the concern that he wouldn’t ever return. However, there was always hope that he could join the Ottawa Senators again at some point. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that will be the case as it has come out that he will likely retire.
Early Morning Rumours
This new development on Clarke MacArthur came very quickly. Earlier this morning, Pierre Dorion said that he was doubtful that Clarke MacArthur would return to play in the NHL. However, at that point it was all speculation and nothing else. Now it has come out that MacArthur will retire, and he has moved to Florida.
Although nothing has been made official, yet it seems like this is the end for MacArthur. His cap hit has reportedly been removed from the Sens payroll. It hasn’t been made official whether he has retired or been placed on LTIR where the Sens would get cap relief, but the rumour is that he retired.

Going Out On A High Note
If that’s the case than the Ottawa Senators will be saying goodbye to an outstanding player who struggled immensely to maintain his health in recent years. Although he was only with Ottawa for four seasons his impact will always be felt in Ottawa. He scored the game winner in the first round over Boston last season to cap off his career. Although he didn’t get to hoist the Stanley Cup he still managed to go out on a high note.
