The Ottawa Senators finished out their trip to Sweden with another win over Colorado. It was 4-3 once again but this time in regulation.
The Ottawa Senators came into the game looking to get four out four points in their series with the Avalanche. Although they trailed for much of the game they were able to close things out in the third period to come away with the victory.
First Period
It was a game of strange bounces on both sides with the first goal being no different. Going on the powerplay the Sens were poised to take the lead. However, when the puck took a weird bounce over the stick of Karlsson, the Avalanche got a breakaway that resulted in a goal. That would be all the scoring in the first period.
Second Period
The second period saw the Sens respond almost instantly. Just 12 seconds into the period Mike Hoffman went to dump the puck into the offensive zone, but the puck took an incredible bounce and went into the back of the net. Then five minutes later it appeared that Chris Wideman gave the Sens the lead, but the goal was called back due to goaltender interference. The Avalanche scored three minutes later to retake the lead, but the Sens answered back quickly. Karlsson made up for the first goal with an excellent takeaway and setup Stone for his third goal of the weekend. Unfortunately, the Avalanche would score once again off an unfortunate bounce off Phaneuf’s stick. That would be the end of Condon for the night and the period ended with the Avalanche leading 3-2.
Third Period
The third period saw the Sens dominate the Avalanche. It seemed like it was only a matter of time until the game was tied, and sure enough the Sens would tie the game off a one-timer by Johnny Oduya. Then on the powerplay a quick passing play by Duchene and Stone setup Hoffman for the game winner.
Weekend Takeaways
The Ottawa Senators left Sweden with four out of four points. A great weekend all around. Hoffman, Stone, and Karlsson were standouts for the team as usual. Despite not registering a point, Duchene’s presence was obvious. He had eight shots last night and was one of the better players for Ottawa. He looks like a great fit for the Sens going forward.
