The Ottawa Senators season is at it’s busiest right now. With the Matt Duchene trade still fresh the team is preparing for their trip to Sweden.
The Ottawa Senators are set to play two games in Sweden in two nights. They will play the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and Saturday afternoon as part of the NHL Global Series. Following the two games the Sens will return to North America where they will have four days off before playing Pittsburgh next Thursday.
Matt Duchene
The biggest story for the series will be Matt Duchene facing his former team. For over a year Duchene was rumoured to be traded from the Avalanche. Now that he has, his first two games with the Sens will be against his former team. Expect a highly motivated Duchene to show himself in both games.
Players Recalled
In preparation for the series the Sens needed to recall an extra skater and goalie in case there’s an injury. Due to the games being in Sweden recalling a player would be impossible once they’re already there. The Sens have opted to recall forward Nick Paul and Goalie Marcus Hogberg. Both players have been in the AHL this season but will take the trip to Sweden with the NHL club.
Players Staying Behind
Two players who won’t make the trip are Bobby Ryan and Mark Borowiecki. Ryan has been out for a few weeks with a broken finger. It was rumoured that he would be ready before the trip but that won’t be the case. He will be reevaluated upon the Sens return.
Borowiecki is out with a personal health issue. He has missed the past few games for the Sens and will not make the trip.

Four Points
Going against an already weak Avalanche team that no longer has Matt Duchene, the Ottawa Senators should set their sights on four points for the trip.
