In defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs the other night, the Ottawa Senators climbed within one point of the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, in dispatching of the Leafs they paid a steep tole as Bobby Ryan was injured.
Last season was the worst of Bobby Ryan’s career. However, he was rejuvenated in the playoffs becoming one of the Ottawa Senators most consistent performers. Following his strong performance in the playoffs he was projected to have a bounce back season. However, that has been put on hold as he was injured last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Thus far this season Bobby Ryan has scored six points in just eight games. Although none of them were goals he has been one of the best forwards on the team so far, this season. He formed a line with Derick Brassard and Mark Stone that has been the Sens best line so far, this season. With Ryan breaking his finger, the line will be broken up for the time being. Someone will need to take Ryan’s place.
The most obvious option to replace Ryan is Logan Brown. Despite being limited in ice time and games in general, Brown found his first NHL point against the Leafs. He got an assist in his third career NHL game. Although he’s been limited thus far it may be time for Boucher to give him a chance to prove himself. With Smith and now Ryan injured the Sens forward group is being stretched thin. In a bigger role Brown may be able to perform very well.
