The Ottawa Senators won their third game in a row in stunning fashion last night by defeating the Edmonton Oilers by the score of 6-1. In doing so they completed their sweep of Western Canada.
Going into the game the Ottawa Senators had Johnny Oduya coming back. However, they still chose to go with seven defencemen. As a result, both Alex Formenton and Logan Brown were once again scratched. Thomas Chabot was in the lineup once again.
First Period
The first period started well for the Sens has Mike Hoffman opened the scoring six minutes into the game. Three minutes later, on the powerplay, Derick Brassard got his third goal of the season to give the Sens a two goal lead. The lead would stand for the rest of the period and the Sens headed to intermission ahead.
Second Period
The second period was a slower affair with Mike Hoffman scoring the loan goal three minutes into the period. The remainder of the period saw both sides get their chances, but with no one capable of finishing. The Sens headed into the second intermission leading 3-0.
Third Period
The third period saw the Sens run away with the game. Turris scored a minute in and Wideman followed him up two minutes later. Then with the Sens already leading 5-0, Turris went end to end to score his second of the game at the eight minute mark of the period. Adam Larsson would score half way through the period to get the Oilers on the board, but it would be too late and the Sens won by the score of 6-1.

Standouts And Takeaways
The standouts of the game were Mike Hoffman, Kyle Turris, and Mike Condon. Hoffman and Turris each had two goals and an assist for three points. Condon was dominant in his first game of the season. He saved 35 of 36 shots to help the Sens win.
Although the win is very important, the best thing to come from this game was success on the powerplay. The Ottawa Senators scored on three out of five attempts. The Sens have been playing very well all season, but now that the powerplay is working the games aren’t close. If the powerplay can keep rolling the Sens will be a very dangerous team.
