The Ottawa Senators defeated the Calagary Flames last night by the score of 6-0. In doing so the Sens won their second straight game.
Going into the game the Ottawa Senators had a record of 1-0-2 and had picked up four out of a possible six points. All this was done without star captain Erik Karlsson. That wouldn’t change this game as the defence core remained in tatters.
First Period
The first period started out slowly as both teams went back in forth with failed owerplay opportunities. However, late in the period Cody Ceci scored is second of the season with less than a minute left. This gave the Sens the lead heading into intermission.
Second Period
The second period was a very similar story for both teams. However, this time the Flames took more penalties than the Sens. Late in the period as their powerplay expired Derick Brassard scored to give the Sens a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
Third Period
The third period was where the Sens turned it on. Mike Hoffman scored a minute in to give the Sens a 3-0 lead. Additionally, this was the team’s first powerplay goal of the season. From their the game really got away from the Flames as Stone, Dzingel, and Wideman would all score to give the Sens the win by the score of 6-0.
Once again, the Sens opted to go with 11 forwards and 7 defencemen. It worked and the Sens got their first regulation win of the season.
Standouts
The standout of this game for the Ottawa Senators was Craig Anderson who stopped all 25 shots to get his first shutout of the season. This shutout tied him with Ryan Miller for the third most shutouts by an American goaltender.
