For the Ottawa Senators playing Vancouver is just another opportunity to get their first win of the season. However, this game has more meaning for one Sens player. Alex Burrows will be playing his first game Vancouver since being traded to Ottawa last season.
Prior to being traded to the Ottawa Senators, Alex Burrows had spent 12 seasons in Vancouver as a Canuck. During this time he amassed 384 points in 822 games. First joining the team in 2005 he was an integral part of some very strong Canucks teams. Notably he was one of their best players during their run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011. He scored the game winner in overtime of game seven in round one against the Chicago Blackhawks that year.
Known as a pest, Burrows has been hated by many fan bases around the league. However, as Sens fans are now very aware, he is very popular among fans of the team he plays for.
Burrows is excited for his return to Vancouver although it may be strange sitting on the other bench. However, he recognizes the importance of the game and getting the Ottawa Senators their first win.
Last season Burrows was traded to the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline in exchange for prospect Jonathan Dahlen. Although this trade was met with controversy because Dahlen appeared to be a very strong up incoming prospect, Burrows addition has been great for the Sens in the short term. He was a great player for the Sens during the playoffs and will look to be just that once again this season.
