For a team that seems to be built around fairy tales the Ottawa Senators have had one of the unluckiest starts in recent memory. With Karlsson already out Johnny Oduya went down in game onw. Ben Harpur was quickly recalled for game two but went down to injury as well. Now the Sens have recalled Thomas Chabot and Christian Jaros.
The plan for the season was to give Thomas Chabot a full season to develop in the AHL. He would only be recalled in an emergency. When one player went down that wasn’t enough as the Sens recalled Ben Harpur. However, with Harpur, Karlsson, and Oduya all out the Sens didn’t have much of a choice and recalled him. Unfortunately, emergency has emerged for the Ottawa Senators much quicker than expected.
Christian Jaros
Thomas Chabot is someone all Sens fans are familiar with. However, he wasn’t the only defenceman recalled yesterday. Christian Jaros was brought up along Chabot. Jaros was drafted the same year as Chabot, 2015. However, he was taken much later, the fifth round. Despite his late draft position he has developed very quickly. Surpassing expectations he looks like a future NHL player. However, despite improvement he isn’t necessarily ready for the show. He was brought up out of necessity.
Recalling Two Players
With two defencemen brought up it brings into question which one is getting into the lineup, or could it be both? After with Harpur going down it only opens up one spot. However, with the Sens losing two games in a row it’s possible Boucher wants to mix things up and bring in both the new players, perhaps a replacement for Borowiecki. Unfortunately this is likely not the case and two players were brought up as a safety net.
In all likelihood Chabot will be the replacement and Jaros will be an extra. He was likely recalled because the Sens are heading on a west coast road trip and don’t want to scramble should another player go down.

Claiming His Spot
With Chabot likely sliding into the lineup against the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow night he’s being given another unexpected opportunity by the Ottawa Senators. He can prove that he belongs in the NHL and take a spot away from Wideman, Borowiecki, or Claesson. Right now he might be the odd man out but with the right performance he can force Boucher’s hand.
