The Ottawa Senators stood by last night as the NHL regular season got underway. However, tonight is their turn. The Sens will take on the Washington Capitals tonight in their season opener.
The last time we saw the Ottawa Senators they were in double overtime of game seven. I’m sure you don’t need reminding but here’s a quick refresher. In game seven of the Eastern Conference Final the Ottawa Senators found themselves down by one goal late in the game. However, with less than ten minutes remaining Ryan Dzingel scored to tie the game. The game went to overtime and then to double overtime. Both teams had numerous chances to win the series, but it was Chris Kunitz of the Pittsburgh Penguins to seal the fate of the Ottawa Senators. He sent the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals where they would go on to win a second consecutive Stanley Cup.
Building On Last Season
The Sens were one goal away from a Stanley Cup matchup with the Nashville Predators. With such a result comes expectations and doubters as well. Some believe that the Sens can build on what they did last year. However, many believe that the Sens are set for regression. None of those opinions matter as it all starts tonight against the Washington Capitals.
The Sens will look to build on last year’s success with a fast start against last year’s President’s Trophy winners. Unfortunately they will be a little shorthanded.
Erik Karlsson
Erik Karlsson will not be ready for the season opener. Although his return could happen any day, it will not happen tonight. The Sens will need to keep the ship afloat until their captain returns.
Logan Brown
The main highlight tonight will be Logan Brown who will be making his NHL debut. He performed well in pre-season and will be looking to cement his spot in the lineup going forward.

Fast Start
The season is just getting started but it’s already a race to the playoffs. The Atlantic Division is as competitive as ever. Every point is important and a win tonight would put the Ottawa Senators into a good position going forward.
