The Ottawa Senators have finished out their pre-season after their game against the Montreal Canadiens last night. It finished in unspectacular fashion as the Sens were destroyed by the score of 9-2.

After defeating the Canadiens by a score of 5-1 one week ago the Ottawa Senators were defeated by an even wider margin. By losing 9-2 the Sens finished with pre-season with a three game loss streak. Overall their pre-season record was 3-3.

First Period

The game actually got out to a good start for the Sens. Kyle Turris scored just 22 seconds into the game to give the Sens the lead. However, that was the only time the Sens would lead and the game quickly got away from them. The Habs tied the game 11 minutes in off a goal by Brendan Gallagher. The period ended with the Habs leading 3-1 after Andrew Shaw scored with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first.

Second Period

The second period was rather slow as Shea Weber had the only goal less than two minutes into the period. With the Sens down 4-1 going into the third the game truly began to unravel.

Third Period

The third period was a disaster for the Sens as the Canadiens scored five goals, and although the Sens got one back the game was already too far gone. The Sens fell by the score of 9-2.

Few Positives

There aren’t many positive takeaways from such a game. No one played well. Nearly everyone on the team played poorly. Young players such as Thomas Chabot had particularly poor showings and may have ruined their shot to make the team this year.

The only positive that can be taken from this game is that it doesn’t count for anything. It was just a pre-season game and the loss doesn’t count in the standings. However, much of the actual roster was in the lineup so hopefully this serves as a wakeup call. The Ottawa Senators will need to rebound quickly because the regular season is on the horizon.
