Ottawa Senators Taken Down In Game Against Winnipeg Jets

The Ottawa Senators finished out there short road trip out west against the Winnipeg Jets. Sadly it ended in a 5-3 loss.

As the Ottawa Senators travel back to the east coast they return with a 3-2 pre-season record. After winning their first three games, the Sens have dropped two straight. Most recently they lost by the score of 5-3 to the Winnipeg Jets last night.

First Period

The game against the Jets was a close affair throughout. The Sens got out to a fast start after Bobby Ryan gave the Sens the initial lead just two and a half minutes into the game. However, the Jets scored with just 12 seconds left in the period to tie the game going into intermission.

Second Period

The second period was the best of the game for the Sens. Alex Formenton scored seven minutes in to give the Sens back their lead. A little under ten minutes later Kyle Turris would score to give the Sens a two goal lead. Unfortunately, this would be the end of good things for the Sens for the remainder of the game. Once again the Jets scored in the dying seconds of the period to bring the score to 3-2 as the period ended.

Third Period

In the third period the Sens tried to maintain their lead but for faced with bitter opposition. Bryan Little scored eight minutes in to tie the game at three. Then with seven minutes remaining, Marko Dano scored to give the Jets their first lead of the game. Little would score again in the dying seconds on an empty net to give the Jets the victory by the score of 5-3.

This was the first game of the pre-season that was close for the Ottawa Senators. Every game prior had been a blowout one way or another. Unfortunately this time the Sens found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreline.

Highlights

One of the highlights of the game was Alex Formenton. He scored his first goal of the pre-season and continues to make a serious case to be in the opening night lineup.

The Sens will play their final pre-season game on Saturday when they travel to Montreal to take on the Canadiens.
