Tonight the Ottawa Senators will take the ice for their first pre-season game. They will face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Canada Tire Centre. This will be the first of a six game pre-season schedule.

The purpose of the pre-season is not necessarily to win games. Rather it’s to evaluate your team and see which players belong on the roster. As a result some of the players that will obviously make the team will dress for fewer games. Players such as Mark Stone, Kyle Turris, and Dion Phaneuf will make the team and therefore may only dress for a few games. However, players such as Thomas Chabot and Colin White who are strong rookie candidates to make the team will likely see action in nearly every game. Tonight the Ottawa Senators will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first game of a home and home with the Leafs. The roster for tonight will consist of a mixture of NHLers and prospects.

Forward

At forward the Sens will be dressing: Bobby Ryan, Alex Burrows, Zack Smith, Ben Sexton, Colin White, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Francis Perron, Mark Stone, Tyler Randell, Mike Hoffman, Gabriel Gagne, Drake Batherson, and Pius Suter. The forwards appear to be split roughly in half in terms of NHL players and prospects looking to make their mark.

Defence

On Defence the Sens will be dressing: Dion Phaneuf, Cody Ceci, Johnny Oduya, Andreas Englund, Maxime Lajoie, Thomas Chabot, and Christian Jaros. The big questions for the defence tonight will be who Boucher pairs Oduya and Chabot with. Both players are new to the team and stand a very good chance of making the NHL team.

Goal

In goal the Ottawa Senators are dressing Marcus Hogberg, Craig Anderson, and Danny Taylor. Each goalie will likely play for one period.

For this game and the rest of the pre-season the games will serve as a tune up for the players who are guaranteed a spot on the Ottawa Senators. For the players looking to make the team it will serve as a tryout. It’s a chance for players to prove themselves.
