PITTSBURGH, PA - MAY 25: Erik Karlsson

With the season coming up soon for the NHL and the Ottawa Senators all eyes turn to the opening night rosters. How will they stack up and who will be available?

Erik Karlsson is the Sens best player, their captain, and their leader. He is everything to the Ottawa Senators. Without Karlsson there is an argument that the Sens don’t make the playoffs last season, let alone the third round. Everything he did last post-season was on one foot. He had fractures all throughout his foot. After undergoing surgery during the summer his return for the start of the season is questionable.

Pierre Dorion released information that Karlsson will begin skating within the next two weeks and after that they will have a better idea of when he will return. In an interview, Karlsson also gave insight on his injury.

Karlsson has said that this injury has been even more difficult to get through that his Achilles injury in 2013. He is unable to work out his lower body in anyway. However, he has stated that he isn’t going to risk his long term career to get back a few games early. When he comes back he will be at one hundred percent.

The fortunate thing for Sens fans is that Karlsson said that he doesn’t believe there’s a chance he stays out into November. Whether he is back for opening night or just before Halloween, Karlsson will play for the Sens in October. As of now the exact date is not certain but there is confidence that he will not be out for long.
