The Ottawa Senators have just completed their 25th year in the NHL. However, due to the 04-05 lockout they are actually about to enter their 25th season. So, I thought what better time to recognize the 25 greatest Senators of all time. This list won’t be based on pure talent, but rather the skill, impact, and durability of each player.

Ottawa Senators Greatest Players: #19 Mike Hoffman
Now without further ado the 18th greatest player in Ottawa Senators history….
#18 Shawn McEachern
Shawn McEachern was a member of the Ottawa Senators from 1996 until 2002. In that time he was a standout player for the Sens as they first began to become elite. He was a consistent 50 point player during his time in Ottawa. He even had a year where he amassed 72 points. During his time in Ottawa he played in 454 games. In this time he amassed 304 points.
The Ottawa Senators are still a young team and will be entering just their 25th season. As a result McEachern is still rather high on the all-time points list. In fact he is 10th in team history in points. In addition he has reached 14th in games played for the Sens.
When a franchise is still young many of the early players will remain on the all-time lists for points and games played for a long time. This has been the case for McEachern. However, it doesn’t take anything away from what he accomplished. Staying in the top 10 for points is impressive no matter what.

The Ottawa Senators had a slow start when they joined the NHL. They had many years of floundering at the bottom of the league. Even after that there were many years of early playoff exits before the team began to succeed. Shawn McEachern was a big part of getting the Sens to contender quality.
