The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau to a three year 9.3 million dollar contract
Despite filing for arbitration recently, Pageau and the Ottawa Senators were able to agree to a contract. The deal will pay Pageau an average of 3.1 million for the next three years. All in all this is a very could signing by the Sens. Although it was never a risk that Pageau would leave, it was important to get Pageau signed for a reasonable price. The price of 3.1 million is more than reasonable, in fact Pageau could have easily been paid more. There were rumours that he would receive closer to the four million dollar range. This is a great contract for a very important member of the Ottawa Senators.
A Two-Way Player
Pageau scored 12 goals and 33 points last year in 82 games. In addition he added eight goals and 10 points in 19 playoff games. This included a four goal game in game two versus the New York Rangers. Capable of solid contributions offensively, it’s his defensive game that makes him so valuable. Easily the best penalty killer the Sens have, Pageau is always a thorn in the opponent’s side. Not only will he kill penalties, but he scores on them just as often. It was just a year ago that he led the league with nine shorthanded points.
Good in the Clutch
In addition to all his other positive attributes, Pageau has been a clutch playoff performer for years. Going back to 2013 he had his famous hat-trick versus Montreal. Then there was this year where he stole a game for the Sens with his four goal performance against the New York Rangers.
