Not too many other fanbases can say that they’ve been on the rollercoaster that the Ottawa Senators have been on. It’s time to step up and be counted.
My word, where to even begin. Just when you thought the Ottawa Senators had somewhat of an idea of what they were doing, they crash back down to earth. It’s been abysmal in recent games.
Losing Erik Karlsson was a mammoth blow at such a critical point of the season. Having not missed a single game for near-on four seasons it was hard news to take. Once you take Erik Karlsson out of an already depleted Sens blue-line, they look so ordinary. With Ceci and Methot already out, the Karlsson blow turned the blue-line into an AHL side. With such a defensive system, when you’re missing three of your top-four d-men it causes havoc.
The other end of the ice hasn’t looked to rosy either. Goal scoring is still an almighty problem that they just can’t seem to fix. I was going to say it would be like stopping a leak, however, it’s more like having any sort of water in the pipes to begin with. Hopefully the additions of both Clarke MacArthur and Colin White will kickstart the offense, it needs it.
Craig Anderson needs some coverage as good as he has been this year he can’t stop everything. The depleted blue-line is slowly but surely killing the Ottawa Senators chances of progressing anywhere past the first-round this year.
Boston Thursday
Writers and pundits alike will see X and Y are the biggest games of the season. Boston on Thursday night is that game. With three games left to play, a point will seal their playoff fate. However, the real battle comes down to who finishes fourth in the Atlantic which is very much an open race.
Win tomorrow night and the Ottawa Senators all but secure a playoff tie against one of their own. Given the Maple Leafs recent form, it will most likely be them with their game in hand over the Bruins.
Next: Ottawa Senators: Clarke MacArthur Returns
Get the win tomorrow night (or at least a point) and the Ottawa Senators can breathe a massive sigh of relief.
