Following a tweet from the ‘Scottrade General’, we analyse the benefits of launching a bid for both Patrik Berglund and Jori Lehtera.

Myself and Ottawa Senators fans alike want to see a blockbuster trade. A move that will propel this team into contention and not simply early round cannon fodder.

Patrik Berglund

28 year-old Swedish national Berglund,  has plied his trade in St. Louis since he was drafted by them back in the 2006 draft. He was taken in the first round, 25th overall.

His NHL points total may not be something to marvel at. 0.47 PPG in 615 games but he offers a lot more than just points. Puck protection is a skill he possesses and can play an excellent physical game. Another who has developed his game to be a two-way player.

Bear in mind that he has come into his own in recent months. Tying in with a resurgence under new head coach Mike Yeo.

Jori Lehtera

The Finnish national was taken in the third round 65th overall by, you guessed it, the St. Louis Blues. They fairly like to keep hold of players they’ve drafted don’t they?

Another forward who doesn’t overly excite a Sens fan in terms of points per game. 0.46 PPG in 209 NHL games. Currently playing third line centre.

Blues fans seem like they are ready to get rid of Lehtera and his seemingly expensive contract. He is said to be on $4,700,000 (via capfriendly) for two seasons after the current year ends.

Thoughts on potential trade

As usual, wholly depends on the price that Blues would be wanting in return. Given that Berglund’s contract is up this year and Lehtera has another two years on a hefty deal, could Lazar tempt them?

Lazar plus a draft pick would be the ask from St.Louis you’d imagine, however, I don’t think the deal would be worth that.

Ottawa want rid of Lazar, Blues want to cash in on those two players, it could happen.
