With the Binghamton Senators most likely out of making the playoffs, there are alternatives for fans in the upcoming post season to fill their needs. Just because our beloved Senators aren’t advancing doesn’t stop fans from shutting it down as the NY Rangers are in it and Ottawa has made an incredible push lately and with that earning a wild card berth.
With April approaching right around the corner, this is the time of year fans are pretty amped up filled with anticipation in looking forward to their team finishing near or at the top of the division/conference giving the best scenario for the upcoming post season. Much like how parent club Ottawa is doing now with all the scoreboard watching and different sorts of scenarios being played out in possible playoff opponents.
Binghamton Missing Playoffs
In finishing the last two season’s with nearly identical records with 96 points in each, the Senators are just about out looking in as their modest two years of advancing into the post season is abruptly coming to an end. After not be able to defend the East Division title this season, the team has past their pinnacle and the future seems quite cloudy with few real prospects arriving.

Local fans that are normally doing their own scoreboard watching themselves this late in the season have come to grips and

terms that things are what it is as rival’s Syracuse Crunch and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins thrive on making the playoffs each and every season giving them a chance to win the Calder Cup, but neither team has succeeded in winning one.
The Senators did in 2011 which is fantastic to say the least. Absolutely thrilled we have accomplished that and can brag about it. I’d much rather have that in my portfolio then to not have won the Calder at all despite making the post season for 12 seasons straight.
Rangers Community Remains Strong
There are still Rangers fans strong in this community as evident of the roughly 26% increase in attendance against the Hartford Wolf Pack in a Saturday night game at The Arena a few weekend’s ago as this is a reminder of the days when the Rangers minor league team was here as the Binghamton Rangers. So there is a carry over effect in a geographic nature that still remains, or was it merely a coincidence? However, mixed in with the seas of Senators jerseys being worn that night was some Rangers’ uniforms so come to your own conclusions.
It’s tough to choose for some as loyal Ranger followers can’t but help to root on the Ottawa Senators featuring players that have come up through the system and develop in front of fans in following their progress over the course of many seasons for some players. There will always be that connection between Ottawa and Binghamton as a reminder of the latest featuring the return of forward Zack Smith on a conditioning assignment.
There are still some bright points to look forward to and some things that need to be addressed during the off-season for the B-Sens. At least we can direct our energy towards Ottawa in their push as this town is somewhat divided between rooting for the Rangers or Ottawa in what could be a first round match-up if it comes to fruition.
As a typical set up on a given game night found by this lone tweet from Tom, a local hockey fan, as it sums it up for many of us here in the hockey hotbed of Southern NY;
Ya, we like our hockey here in Binghamton.
