The Ottawa Senators are that much closer to making the playoffs. With their sixth straight win, Andrew Hammond improves his career record to 13-0-1. Wow.
GAME RECAP
The first goal of the game came from a rare nice play by Alex Chiasson. He fought through a couple of Maple Leafs defenders to the corner of the offensive zone, and made a perfect pass to Mike Hoffman who was open in the slot and put it past James Reimer. They extended their lead just three minutes later. Matt Puempel carried the puck through the neutral zone, sending the short pass to Mika Zibanejad to his right. Zianejad then sent the puck across the zone to an open Karlsson who fired it past Reimer. 2-0 Senators after the first period.

The Leafs halved the Senators’ lead with a goal less than three minutes into the period. Dion Phaneuf‘s point shot was deflected past Andrew Hammond by Joakim Lindstrom. It only took about 30 seconds for the Senators to regain the two goal lead, however. Curtis Lazar carried the puck into the offensive end from centre ice, and sniped it over Reimer’s shoulder for a beautiful goal.
The second period’s craziness continued with another Leafs goal just over a minute later. Kyle Turris tried the risky pass to Mark Stone in the defensive zone, not realizing that Zach Sill was waiting right there. Sill passed to Leo Komarov who scored on a surprised Hammond. It was a little while until the Leafs were able to tie it, but of course they did.
A little over ten minutes after being within one, Tim Erixon‘s shot from the point got through everyone and made its way past a screened Hammond. The period wouldn’t end there however, as the Senators regained their lead before time ran out.
Patrick Wiercioch sent a pass across the offensive zone to Karlsson. Everyone expected Karlsson to shoot, but he surprised everyone with a fantastic pass to Turris who fired it past Jonathan Bernier, who had replaced Reimer. Kyle Turris finished it with an empty netter to give the Senators their sixth win in a row.
