Ryan Dzingel Perhaps Making The Case For Ottawa Senators

As the Binghamton Senators suffer through a disappointing first half of the season and slightly beyond, there are still a few bright spots for this team to what’s been an otherwise futile season so far. Forward Ryan Dzingel is one of them as he dips and dazzles his way through his first professional season as in this latest SenSeries Profile focusing on #43 for the B-Sens.

As a former standout for Ohio State University, Ryan was the leading scorer on the Buckeyes in his junior year while serving as one of the assistant captain’s in having scored 22 goals with 24 assists in 37 games. Himself, and same fellow rookie Senator from Ohio State team-mate Max McCormick has made strides this season as McCormick was profiled earlier this season here.

The 22-year-old native of Wheaton, IL was a 7th round draft pick in 2011 (204th overall) by Ottawa and is in his first year of a standard 2 yr entry-level deal. Played in 9 games for Binghamton late last spring having recorded 2 goals and 5 assists while scoring his first pro goal on Apr 12th against current Sens netminder Peter Mannino for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Ryan also participated in the first round of the playoffs before the Senators were quickly eliminated by the Pens in four games.

He started out with a bang the first night with two goals, and he’s been snake-bitten a little bit but he’s working, he’s a bright-eyed kid who asks questions and learns so I expect a young guy that has his legs to have a real good second half. ~ Luke Richardson

The man with the big toothy grin, has some raw skills without a doubt, while sporting a natural gifted shot that can produce and be a potential big weapon scoring threat aka Matt Puempel once he buckles down with some playing experience in the AHL. Inconsistencies in his ice time have been throughout his playing career dating back to Ohio State in leading to his lack of production. He has been sitting on the pine as a healthy scratch a number of times while currently manufacturing 9 goals and 6 assists in 35 games. Despite all of this,

Late last year Dzingel was inserted between Robinson and Cole Schneider on the second line that might help explain his surprising point surge breaking into the pros with Cole setting him up often. In Nov of 2014, Ryan was positioned on the left side of Jean-Gabriel Pageau at center, along with Schneider on the right but with Pageau’s inevitable summons up to Ottawa, it has changed the complexity of things forcing Luke Richardson’s hands to spread out the talent as Ryan finds himself currently on the third line centering two rookies in Alex Guptill and Garrett Thompson. That all rookie line hasn’t worked, as lately second year player Buddy Robinson has been fitted on the right side to help matters out.

Dzingel’s adaption process to the pros has had some hiccups as the rough road would follow him with a few healthy scratches along the way as he currently sits with 9 goals and 6 assists in 35 games. Recently he’s been manning the point during the power play along with defenseman Alex Grant and doing a decent job at it in moving the puck, keeping things fluid on the man advantage in opening up scoring opp’s.

Despite Ryan lacking any desirable weight at 187 lbs for a 6 footer, he has excelled with his speed and good ice vision, although gets knocked off the puck at times losing the forward progress in the offensive zone. Dzingel was involved with a few pre-season tilt’s but other than that it’s been on the quiet front as he needs to not forget in adding some additional grit in each contest.

Asking fellow Binghamton fan’s opinion’s about Dzingel through a social media output and here’s what they had to say via twitter starting with our own Photographer Alicia Strauch;

From our friends over at SilverSeven.Com., TheIanAlex offer’s his view in his recent visit to the Southern Tier of NY;

Long time Senator’s fans exchanged some tweet’s among themselves as well;

But this one from B-rad might have hit it out of the park in his overall early assessment;

Along with another that has shared some frustration’s coming from B-Sens fan Mike Stanford;

Potential is there for Dzingel, it just might take some time to gather all the tool’s in the shed to one work bench.
