Ottawa Senators vs Philadelphia Flyers — Our Thoughts

More Pre-Game thoughts here.

Here’s our thoughts.

Trevor Shackles (17-21)

The Broad Street Bullies don’t seem so much like Bullies anymore, and they most likely won’t make the playoffs. However, Ottawa is essentially in the same boat and on the road the Senators will be hard pressed to get the win. Looking at the top 10 prospects available in next years draft I’m really getting okay with losses for the rest of the year.

I think it will be a close game, but the Flyers will pull through in overtime, which will help those people that want operation tank to begin.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly vs Ottawa Prediction : If you’re looking for defensive battle, this game isn’t for you. With Philadelphia averaging over 3 goals against a game and Ottawa with 2.75, the goals will come pretty easy tonight. Ottawa has been outperforming Philadelphia over the course of the last ten games. Ottawa holds a (5-3-2) record, Philadelphia (3-5-2).

Which makes picking the winner of tonight’s game a bit easier, I’m picking Ottawa 5-3. Even though Ottawa has fell hard when they have lost, they have been able to bounce back the next game.

The Flyers are worse than the Senators… In terms of record. Ottawa sits 11th in the conference while Philly is 13th. The teams are seperated by four points.

This game is a big game for these teams as they hope to stay in the playoff race. This game will come down to goaltending. I unfortunately am sensing a Flyers win.

Ottawa may not be coming in hot after its loss to Tampa, but if they feel the way I do then they should be coming in angry.
The Sens took the game to Tampa for much of the opening frame, but ultimately the Lightning got their spark back and kept a tired Sens team at bay for the rest of the game.

I liked a lot of what I saw initially in that game, and I’m seriously hoping and do believe that what I didn’t like was the result of a tired team facing an Eastern powerhouse more and that it wasn’t as bad as it looked.

One thing I think the team absolutely must do is be tougher in their own zone.

Three times in the past four games we’ve seen goals against from a player not being knocked off the puck and having too much zone time to wheel and deal (Nyquist in Detroit, Marchand against Boston, and Stamkos in Ottawa the other night). As much as these were great individual plays they were absolutely preventable, and they have to be stopped.

Philly’s in the midst of a freefall this season, and I think the Sens are just a step enough above mediocrity to pull out a win tonight at the Wells Fargo.

Ottawa Senators take it 3-2 in OT.

Sens win 3-2 over the Flyers. Philly has been struggling the last while. Ottawa has to take advantage of that here…right?
