Binghamton Senators Vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins: Game Preview

A recent topic that had reached some social media awareness, notably twitter, included the Binghamton Senators situation with the team carrying three goaltenders that are under contract with one too many. As a result, fan favorite Scotty Greenham was the odd man out and was sent to Evansville after posting three wins in a row. Despite the fallout, there’s a game to be played tonight as they take on the Penguins with net-minder’s Andrew Hammond and Peter Mannino on board.

MATCH-UP HISTORY

Binghamton won their first game vs the Penguins this season last Friday night with goaltender Scott Greenham posting a 3-0 shutout.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Matt Murray, WBS – Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff was called up by Pittsburgh following his loss in Binghamton on Friday and was sent back with him responding with a 2-0 shutout over Hershey on Wednesday. It’ll be interesting in who gets the nod tonight, but I think Murray will get the start.

Carter Camper, BNG – The 26-year-old veteran started the season out slow while finding his footing with his new team=mates, but has turned it around as of late in proof of his three assists in Wednesday’s 6-2 win. He’s been centering Shane Prince and Cole Schneider and it’s been cashing in during this three game win streak with a combined 14 points between the trio.

THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

1. Who Starts in Net? – The Mannino signing is obviously a great one long-term, but stings somewhat on the short end with Greenham riding a three game winning streak. Out of this Hammond needs to step up as his being the #1 goaltender is at risk.

2. Offense Remains on Fire – As the team is ranked second in goals averaging 3.39 and second in shots with 34.13. The power play is also ranked up there in the second spot with a 23.3%.

3. Penguins Still Have a Depleted Line-Up – Coming into tonight’s match the Pens still have eight regulars up in Pittsburgh with several different transactions still taking place on a daily basis in rotating a few. Amazing they can retain atop of the East Division because at some point their house of cards will tumble in keeping with this pace.
