Dave Cameron didn’t get a “W” with his first game as Senators head coach, but Ottawa performed well. Ottawa stayed in this game until 2 quick goals in the 3rd which led to a final of 5-3.
GAME RECAP
The game got off to a fast start for Ottawa, where until a LA Powerplay they led the kings 8-0 in SOG. No score in the first as Ottawa led the period 14-5 in shots on goal.
The second opened up with a goal by Matt Greene. It was Justin Williams who took the 2-0 lead for Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick made a fantastic save on Alex Chiasson who seemed to have time and space in front of the net.
It was Bobby Ryan who got Ottawa on the board, with an amazing solo effort past Jon Quick.
That is Bobby’s 6th of the season, and easily a goal of the year candidate. Vladmir Tarasenko may stand in his way at this point, but nonetheless a great effort. The Goal marks Bobby’s 6th of the season, where this time last year he had 15.
Mark Stone gave Ottawa a short-lived tie game with a goal from in front of the net. Mark Stone was on a 12 game goal-less streak as it seems Ottawa has lacked a consistent scorer all season. The goal was short-lived as it was Anze Kopitar taking the 3-2 lead and Trevor Lewis expanding the gap back to a 2 goal advantage.
A late rush by Ottawa and Jared Cowen resulted in a Cowen “Gordie Howe Hattrick” and a 4-3 game. It again did not last as Tannar Pearson shot one in the open net to seal the deal for Los Angeles.
The Sens fell in this one, but Ottawa fans have to be happy with the effort. They lost to the defending Cup champions and Dave Cameron’s first effort behind the bench was a good one.
GAME NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
- Cowen had one of his best games, notching a Gordie Howe Hattrick and looking confident with the puck.
- Erik Karlsson did not have a great game, but was not as bad as certain TSN personalities made him out to be.
- That goal by Bobby Ryan.. wow.
- Nice to see Stone get on the board, clears up a dry streak for him.
- When is Kyle Turris going to start scoring? He had 26 last season and has yet to record more than one goal per month this season.
- A good effort by the Senators, they gave the Kings a run for there money and had it not been for a few small errors this game could have gone either way.
- Welcome, Dave Cameron.
