A tremendous career is coming to an end. Daniel Alfredsson could be set to announce his retirement, and will be another turning of the page for Swedish hockey and the Ottawa Senators.

Alfredsson spent 17 amazing years in Ottawa, and until his departure in 2013 was the NHL’s longest-serving captain. Alfredsson is dearly loved in Ottawa and will be remembered as an Ottawa Senator.

I like what Shawn Simpson suggests on the situation, where Bryan Murray’s health and relationships on the team could play a part on how he retires.

The report comes from NHL Insider, Elliotte Friedman. It claims Alfredsson is ready to announce his retirement as early as monday. The report can be read on Sportsnet.ca and includes some thoughts from Paul MacLean on Alfredsson.

We are still talking speculation, but the opportunity is there for Alfredsson to mend the relationship of just about every disgruntled Senator fan.

Alfredsson, despite his age was an affective player last season and led the Red Wings in scoring.

Alfredsson sat out training camp with Detroit after suffering from back issues. It’s not certain about how Alfredsson is to retire, but he won’t be playing this year and at 42-years-old a return is highly unlikely.

Spezza Signs

Spezza was traded to Dallas as an upcoming UFA this off-season, and the Starts will retain his services for 4 more years as Spezza signed a 4 Year/30 Milion dollar contract.

This comes after a great start to the season for Spezza. Spezza’s always been an offensive star, and continues to be this season. 18 points in 20 games is read across Spezza’s statline, and if he continues to play with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn there’s no reason to think he can’t keep it up.

The Stars are a team many thought would be a strong western conference team this season. They have 2 of the league’s youngest stars and are a team on the rise. Yet, they have struggled in the early going.

The stars have not won a game on home ice in over a month, and is playing with a 7-9-4 record. With the Western Conference being strong, the stars are on the inside looking out and will have to step it up if a playoff birth is insight.
