Methot Rumours via Dreger, Eklund.

The Senators head into a break after 3 games on the road. Their next game, Thursday is at home vs Nashville and will be a hard two points to earn. The lineup will get a much-needed break. With Marc Methot inching back into the lineup, there is interest in him as a trade target if the Senators can’t sign him.

Methot is a valuable piece to any team, and if Senators GM Bryan Murray were to decide to deal Methot; many would be interested. A report from TSN’s Darren Dreger states that there are up to 4 teams who have interest in Marc Methot.

Detroit is a team that was mentioned by Dreger. Detroit has searched for a reliable defender for some time, where Methot may be the perfect fit as his price would not be as high as others.

Florida, Anaheim, and Edmonton were others mentioned to have interest, where Edmonton’s young group could really benefit from Methot.

Yet, Edmonton’s D group is starting to look a little jammed.

Vets Nikita Nikitin, Andrew Ference, and Mark Fayne are all taking a roster spot and with Martin Marincin, Darnell Nurse, Oscar Klefbom, and others in the system.. do they need another veteran defender?

HockeyBuzz’s Eklund tied Methot to rumours with Edmonton as well. The Oilers are reportedly taking calls on Benoit Pouliot, strange considering he was a UFA signing this offseason. Pouliot is signed to a 5 year, 4,000,000 AAV deal and has performed well in Edmonton of late.

“He (Pouliot) scores clutch goals and drives opposing defenses inside their own skin….he has HUGE amounts of value” – Eklund, HockeyBuzz

Pouliot would’ve liked to be in Ottawa this year, as a local boy. It’s said Ottawa made a big push to gain Pouliot’s services, but it was Edmonton who offered the cash.

This comes from an Ottawa Citizen article. seen here.  To be exact, the article states the Senators “kicked tires” on Pouliot; who would’ve enjoyed playing in OTT due to location of family and friends.

Dreger, Friedman on Colin Greening

Greening may be done in Ottawa. I’ve written two or three pieces on his situation, and it seems as though it may be wrapping up. Greening was featured on a TSN “Insider Trading” segment where Dreger explained Ottawa may consider a “3rd, 4th or even 5th round pick” for Greening’s services.

Elliotte Friedman also mentioned Colin Greening in his weekly “30 thoughts” piece.

“Definitely time for a fresh start for Colin Greening, it’s believed the Rangers and St. Louis were among those interested”

Friedman is of course talking about those interested in Greening before he signed his extension to remain in Ottawa. Friedman also mentioned Pierre Dorion’s scouting this week which included St Louis and New York, along with Edmonton and Buffalo.

Buffalo is a team Ottawa has held talks with in the past, according to Friedman and others. Bryan Murray has had interest in Chris Stewart for some time, and Tim Murray knows Ottawa’s system well.

Senators Scouting

The past few seasons, we’ve seen the Senators sign guys out of College to join the system. Recently Garret Thompson, Andrew Hammond, and Ludwig Karlsson have been among those signed out of College.

This tweet popped up via Matthew McGreevy (@M_McGreevy) claiming the Senators have interest in Ohio State D-man, Drew Brevig.

Brevig attended the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks rookie camps this off-season, so one has to think there is interest around the league. At 6foot and only 22 years old, he could be a good pickup for an NHL team.
