PLAYERS TO WATCH
Mikhail Grigorenko, RCH – The first round pick (12th overall) in 2012 has 4 goals and 4 assists in 10 games has bounced back and forth within the Buffalo Sabres organization the last several years as new management has now back peddled with the 20-year-old Russian in sending him to develop in the AHL full time before getting his ticket punched in returning him to Buffalo.
Ryan Dzingel, BNG – The 22-year-old has settled in nicely centering the second line between Shane Prince and Cole Schneider previously held from Carter Camper. Dzingel has shown his offensive upside and smooth skating skills having a hand full of breakaway’s and odd man rushes so far this season while adjusting to the pros as he returns to the place he scored his first professional goal late last spring.
TOP 3 STORYLINES FOR THE GAME
1. Despite the Bad Record.. – Binghamton is in last place in their division by percentage points, however they are only four points out of first place currently held by the Hershey Bears. It’s now the time that this club needs to string some wins together before that margin grows wider.
2. Senators Not the Only Team With Goaltender Issues – Other then what we know about Andrew Hammond affair’s out of the gate, Rochester is also having some problems of their own as rookie goalie Andrey Makarov was yanked half way through the game on Tuesday, letting in five goals on 17 shots in a 6-1 loss to Hamilton. Nathan Lieuwen is off to a sub-par start himself with a record of 3-3-0, 3.07 GAA and 0.887 save percentage.
3. Special Bond Between the Two Cities – Binghamton visits an old friend in Rochester as these two cities have a long history with one another dating back to the late 70’s. Back then it was the Binghamton Dusters, followed by the Whalers, Rangers and Senators that made hockey an event every time they would face each other. Times have changed but for us older fans we remember the good times when they saddled up against each other.
