League’s other than the NHL are in full swing and off. Here, I take a look at the Senators defence prospects who aren’t playing at the pro level. Part 1, a look at forwards is here

Andreas Englund (SEL) (18GP, 1G, 2A) Englund is Ottawa’s highest pick from the 2014 draft, Senators management likes him as a Character guy in the organization. Englund plays a steady game and is playing in Sweden’s best league as an 18-year-old. His numbers will never be astounding as that’s not a part of his game, but one has to think he is a candidate for Sweden at the World Junior championship.

Mikael Wikstrand (SEL) (13GP, 2G, 2A) – We haven’t seen Wikstrand’s game on North American ice, but he has aspirations to come to North America next season. Wikstrand is considered a smooth skater and is playing in the Sweden’s best, along with Englund.  As for his season he is off to a good start, yet is currently battling some injury troubles

Ben Harpur (OHL) (8GP, 2G, 7P) – Ben Harpur signed his entry-level deal a few days ago and should compete for a spot in Binghamton next season. He’s a 6foot6 defender and brings size and strength to his game. Offence has never been a huge part in his game; and his OHL overage totals are because he is in his final season. Harpur was a +34 on a Guelph squad last year and will look to repeat last season success to compete for a World Junior spot.

Kelly Summers (NCAA) (5GP 0G, 1P) – Kelly Summers wasn’t at the NHL draft in Philadelphia this year, but was scooped up by the Ottawa Senators in the 7th round. Drafted as a defender who can make a good first pass, Kelly dominated the Central Canada hockey league last season, but has not put up points through five games at the NCAA level.

Miles Gendron (BCHL) (18GP, 2G, 6P) – Gendron is touted as an elite skater with puck skills. Ottawa’s 3rd rounder from the 2014 draft, the organization likes him and he’s playing in the BCHL this year as a first year player. His point totals are just fine for a defender of his nature as at 6foot2 he could

Marcus Hogberg (SEL) (7GP 3-2-0  .900 sv%) – Ottawa likes their swedes, and Hogberg is a swede. Hogberg was a world junior last season and in theory could represent sweden again this year. His stats are somewhat underwhelming as he has served backup to Linkopings HC’s David Rautio and currently has a .900SV% and a 3.01 GAA.
