Now that we have a deep staff at SenShot, we are going to give our writers the opportunity to make their predictions, and have a bit of a contest throughout the season. Whoever gets the most games correct will win bragging rights.
Tonight, the Senators open their season in Music City, home of the Nashville Predators.
Here are our predictions:
Travis Valois –
Ottawa went 1-0-1 against Nashville last year. Both teams now have different faces on their respective top lines. I predict Ottawa to take this game. It will be a close game, Pekka Rinne is a very good goalie. Much of this game hinges on the Senators avoiding the problems that hurt them last year; taking too many penalties.
Senators win
Eldrinson Vado –
It’s going to be a tight game between the Preds and Sens, I’m expecting some strong goaltending from Pekka Rinne and Craig Anderson. Offensively the Sens are still more superior then the Preds but don’t count out the solid defensive core from Nashville to keep the Sens at bay. I’m not expecting a high scoring game, so a 3-2 Sens season opening win seems reasonable.
Jack Leiper –
Ottawa takes the opener to the season 4 – 2. Craig Anderson is stellar in the net and David Legwand has a great effort in his return to Nashville. Picking up the W is Ottawa who starts the season on the right foot with Tampa and Florida in sight.
Charlie Arseneault –
Sens win 3-2. Karlsson dominates in first game as captain
Josh Chenoweth –
I think the Senators win this 4-3. They’ll still have done defensive problems, especially with Phillips likely to play 20 plus minutes, but the forward depth and Anderson will do the job.
Jared Crozier
It’s hard to say what to expect from the Senators. I think they are deep enough to score from all lines, and that could be the difference between themselves and the Predators. However with the likes of Shea Weber and Pekka Rinne, it won’t be easy. Ottawa sneaks away with a tight win.
