MATCHUP HISTORY

This will be the first game between these rivals this season. They played each other a total of five times last season, with the Canadiens winning three, and outscoring the Senators 21-20. But Sens fans would rather not talk about those games.

LAST GAMES

The Ottawa Senators lost by a score of 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. The Canadiens are coming off a 3-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Erik “Captain” Karlsson, OTT – Even if you think the captain should have been Chris Phillips or Chris Neil, how could you not have gotten excited when they announced that Karlsson was the new captain? This should be huge year for Karlsson, and I’m willing that his first game with a C on his jersey will be a big one.

Max Pacioretty, MTL – One of the top goal scorers in the league last year. He’s always dangerous, with or without the puck. He can play in any situation, and all eyes are on him when he’s on the ice.

TOP 3 STORYLINES

1. Bobby!! – Bobby Ryan signed an extension much earlier than anyone expected. What could have made him change his mind about waiting until the season started? Perhaps he was given word that he’d be getting top minutes as well as a spot on the top PP unit (which he should be getting anyway). Now fans will be able to watch Ryan dominate without having to worry about him making those same moves on the Senators’ defense next season.

2. Dress Some Fighters – Even if it is preseason, Sens – Habs games can get pretty rough. The Senators will want guys like Neil, Zack Smith or Mark Borowiecki dressed in case things get ugly.

3. Battle of the Masks – Yes, Paul MacLean has said the Craig Anderson is the number one goalie, but that doesn’t mean Lehner shouldn’t try to impress. Lehner has got to prove he can steal some wins. It can be the difference between playing 30 and 50 games. Although the last time he proved he could help a losing team win he was benched in favor of Anderson after winning three in a row.
