Defenseman Ty Wishart Signs With Binghamton Senators

The Binghamton Senators blue line got just a little more congested as they have signed 26-year-old Ty Wishart to a 2 way AHL/ECHL PTO contract according to his agent Darryl Wolski. He joins the B-Sens for the three pre-season matches over in Lyon, France starting this Thursday.

Wishart, a former first round pick by the San Jose Sharks in 2006, returns to the AHL after taking a year off playing overseas for the Schwenninger Wild Wings of the Deutsche Eishockey League in Germany in 2013-’14. There he scored 5 goals with 11 assists and 18 pim in 50 games. He signed an extension on Mar 3rd to play the 2014-’15 season for the Wild Wings, but requested his contract be terminated so he can return to North America for personal reasons according to Wiki.

The big 6′ 4″, 225 lb. native out of  Belleville, ONT has played in 326 AHL games with Norfolk Admirals (2009-’11) and Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2011-’13). Wishart also played in 26 NHL contests with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2008-’09) and NY Islanders (2010-’12) following his trade for goaltender Dwayne Roloson.

He adds yet another veteran presence on defense along with recent addition’s Aaron Johnson, Alex Grant and Patrick Mullen that will likely bump Michael Sdao out for the time being as head coach Luke Richardson has to be stoked coming into the new season having a full, veteran laden defense that has lacked lately for Binghamton.

With all the changes being made, it’s going to be an exciting campaign coming up with the opener a little more than a week away!

UPDATE: Wishart was released from his PTO and will be playing for the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL. He could return for another PTO if needed for the Senators.
